Ever since 1964, WPHS has broadcasted over Warren and Sterling Heights, but this year, things are about to change.
The Exile Radio’s goal has been to expand our coverage and reach out to listeners outside of our range. For the past few years, WPHS Crew and Staff have placed great effort into obtaining money for installing a new transmitter and antenna to do so. With last year’s Golden Anniversary Pledge Drive, we managed to buy the transmitter but still fell short for the antenna. The FCC granted us this opportunity to upgrade and stated that our deadline was the end of 2014. Upon entering the new school year, things were not hopeful; however, last Monday, CPC Principal Doug Babcock gave us CTE funding. As a result, we reached our goal!! WPHS Crew and Staff are ecstatic to have been a part of this great event and would like to extend our thanks to Cousino High School's Booster Club and Principal Babcock. We managed to accomplish this dream because of their help. Without a doubt, this achievement marks a historic moment for WPHS, so we give thanks to all of our faithful listeners and those who donated. We would not have made it anywhere with you. This year begins with a great start, and we cannot wait to continue it with you. Don't forget to tune in to your favorite radio station 89.1 FM WPHS the Exile Radio! -Staff WPHS Crew and Staff have returned! We hope you guys enjoyed your summer and Summer of Exile. With that, we cannot wait to start off the new year with new music and student broadcasting. This year we will be focusing on creating higher quality product and maintaining a professional outlook for our crew and listeners.
We're all glad to be back, and we're set and ready to give you guys your much needed dose of Exile Radio. You'll hear more from us soon, so until then, keep on listening to WPHS 89.1 FM. -Staff With the end of the school year, WPHS Crew will be gone until September, but even if we're away, we have the Summer of Exile for you the listeners to enjoy! Next year, we'll return with more music and more Exile Radio fun. Until then, relax and listen to 89.1 FM.
-Staff It's that time of year again. The WPHS Pledge Drive has arrived once more and will take place from May 12th to the 16th!
As a noncommercial, student-run station, WPHS relies on our local community and loyal listeners to help fund us. The Pledge Drive is our biggest and most important fundraiser of the year, and this year’s Pledge Drive is extra special for several reasons. If we can raise enough money, the Exile Radio has the opportunity to get a new radio tower and increase our signal strength from 100 to 600 watts. In addition, this year marks the 50th Anniversary of WPHS, making this the Golden Anniversary Pledge Drive. With these things in mind, we are hoping to make this year’s Pledge Drive longer and better than ever! If you’re unfamiliar with our tradition, the Pledge Drive is an event that takes place the week before spring break each year. We have students broadcasting on the air 24/7 for the duration of the event. Listeners can tune in for extra long specialty shows and chances to win prizes by donating online or over the phone. Our preparations have already begun, so be sure to mark your calendars, and tune in to help support your favorite high school radio station! -Staff Welcome to 89.1 FM's new and improved home page!
